Go get your sabbath back !

As I was studying the Word of God tonight, the Lord showed me something in this passage that deeply convicted me.
“They must realize that the Sabbath is the Lord’s gift to you. That is why he gives you a two-day supply on the sixth day, so there will be enough for two days. On the Sabbath day you must each stay in your place. Do not go out to pick up food on the seventh day.”
Exodus 16:29 (NLT)
Notice what God says: “The Sabbath is the Lord’s gift to you.”
The Sabbath was never meant to be a burden. It was God’s gift. Before He commanded them to rest, He made sure they had more than enough. On the sixth day, He provided a double portion so they would not have to strive on the seventh. God’s provision was designed to protect their rest.
As I read this, the Lord spoke to my heart and said that many people struggle with imbalance, burnout, exhaustion, and the constant feeling of never having enough because they have failed to honor the Sabbath.
Many of us have experienced the double portion of the sixth day, but instead of seeing it as God’s provision for rest, we have become greedy instead of grateful. We have turned God’s abundance into another reason to keep working. We have become so consumed with pursuing provision, success, influence, and status that we have replaced the very thing God called a gift: time in His presence.
The problem is not that God stopped providing. The problem is that we stopped resting.
We know how to gather when God says gather, but we have forgotten how to stop when God says stop. We know how to work, but many of us no longer know how to worship. We have become uncomfortable with stillness because productivity has become our identity.
The Sabbath reminds us that our lives are sustained by God’s faithfulness, not by our constant labor. Every time we refuse to rest when God commands it, we subtly declare that our effort is more trustworthy than His provision.
Hear the Word of the Lord:
Get back to honoring your Sabbath.
Stop replacing your time with God with another work shift, another meeting, another business opportunity, another event, or another activity. Protect the space God has already provided for Himself.
God is not asking you to do less because He wants less from you. He is asking you to rest because He knows what endless striving will cost you.
Honor His commands. Prioritize His presence. Trust His provision.
The God who gave Israel enough for two days is still the God who knows how to provide more than enough for those who trust Him. You do not have to burn the candle at both ends to experience God’s blessing. His grace is sufficient, His provision is abundant, and His timing is perfect.
The Sabbath is still God’s gift.
Receive it. Honor it. Rest in Him.
