Today was a chill day .. Perspectives Matter.

My wife just came and sat next to me and said something that made my whole day.

She smiled and said, “Today was such a chill day.”

Now, let me give you some context.

We have been home all day with all of our kids. From my perspective, I felt like I had just survived a survival camp. I was negotiating conflicts, answering questions every 30 seconds, cleaning up messes, breaking up arguments, chasing toddlers, and wondering if I’d make it to bedtime.

Meanwhile… she felt rested.

At first, I laughed. Then it hit me.

While I was carrying the weight, she was experiencing the fruit.

That is what leadership looks like.

So many of us misinterpret the seasons we’re in because we only evaluate them by how they feel. We assume that if we’re exhausted, then nothing significant is happening. But what if your greatest victory isn’t your comfort? What if your greatest victory is the peace someone else is able to experience because you chose to carry the burden?

Our children had an incredible day. They laughed, played, and simply enjoyed being kids. My wife was able to breathe, rest, and be refreshed because I absorbed much of what the day demanded.

And when she told me how peaceful her day had been, I realized something.

That was my victory.

Leadership is often invisible. Sometimes the battle you’re fighting isn’t about you. It isn’t even for you. It’s for the people you’ve been entrusted to cover.

Parents understand this.

Pastors understand this.

Leaders understand this.

There are seasons when God allows you to stand in the trenches so someone else can recover, heal, dream again, or simply catch their breath.

Don’t take every difficult season personally. If you do, you’ll miss what God is producing through you. Sometimes your sacrifice becomes someone else’s sanctuary.

Today reminded me that presence is powerful.

Sometimes people don’t need your perfect words.

They don’t need another strategy.

They don’t need you to fix everything.

Sometimes they simply need you to be there.

So don’t spend your whole life trying to become something impressive.

Just be present.

You never know whose peace is depending on your willingness to stand in the gap.
